Our Partnership with Genetic Direction
Through Daniel's connection to the International Sports Science Association, Embodied Spirit Coaching was able to form a partnership with Genetic Direction, which is a federally certified genetic testing lab based in Dallas, TX. Genetic Direction analyzes approximately 300 unique genetic markers that have been shown through external research to be related to various ways the human body processes food, nutrients, and physical exercise, as well as how the body responds to the aging process.
Why Testing?
As the field of genetics evolves, it’s becoming more obvious: genes play a role in more than just hair and eye color. Everyone is unique because of genetics. And this type of individuality requires personalized solutions when it comes to health and wellness recommendations. Genetic testing provides the ability to design coaching programs so accurate and predictable, that client success--when following the recommendations--is more likely. This is perhaps the most exciting change in the health and wellness profession!
What the Research Demonstrates
A recent study published by the European Society of Human Genetics found that dieters employing weight management programs tailored to the individual’s genome lost up to 33% more weight than those following standard, “one size fits all” weight loss programs. With the latest genomic technology, any health management program that does not take an individual’s genetic profile into account is simply guesswork.
How it Happens
While the science behind our products is very complex, the process you will follow to obtain your genetics-based recommendations is quite simple. After you purchase a product, you will receive a DNA collection kit. You will simply rub the sterile cotton swab in the kit along your gums for one minute, pack the sample up, and send it back to the Genetic Direction lab. Their federally certified lab will analyze your sample, and within 2-3 weeks, Embodied Spirit will send you notification that your report is ready for you to access inside your secure web portal.
The Deal for 23andMe and Ancestry Clients
If you have already purchased a 23andMe Health+Ancestry test or an AncestryDNA test, then you are eligible to purchase our genetic wellness products at a large discount – and you don’t have to submit another sample for DNA testing! During registration you will have the opportunity to upload your 23andMe Health+Ancestry or AncestryDNA raw genetic data from and we will generate your reports and recommendations from your existing data. Since we don’t need to obtain another DNA sample from you, the turnaround time for your reports will be days, not weeks.
The Embodied Spirit Genetic Test
The Embodied Spirit premier report contains 34 unique genetic traits and is a combination of several traits from the GxSlim (weight loss), GxPerform (athletic performance), GxRenew (healthy aging) and GxNutrient (micronutrient tendencies) programs. The vast majority of the traits within GxSlim and GxPerform are included in the Embodied Spirit Genetic Test, but the Food Summary, Sample Meal Plan, Exercise Summary and Sample Exercise Plan (all from GxSlim) are NOT included in the Embodied Spirit Genetic Test. This is the only test Embodied Spirit offers. You may order additional tests a la carte directly through Genetic Direction.

A: Your DNA sample will be destroyed by the lab within 45 days of analyzing the DNA.
Q: How is my private health information (PHI) protected?
A: To prevent unauthorized access to your information, our systems are run on HIPAA-compliant architecture, employing secure servers, firewalls, and encrypted back-ups.
Q: Can my employer or insurance provider ever obtain the results of my genetic testing?
A: No. Your privacy is protected by the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA), which was instituted in the United States in May 2008. As a result, you are also not required to disclose genetic information to an employer or insurer. In addition, Genetic Direction will not respond to any request for test results from an insurer, employer, or any other entity.
